The National Measurement Institute (NMI) maintains pattern approval standards, or otherwise known as 'type' approval standards, for measuring instruments used for trade and legal purposes. NMI also examines and certifies measuring instruments in accordance with these pattern approval standards to ensure they comply with world’s best practice.
To ensure that measuring instruments used in Australia are as good as those anywhere in the world, Australia’s pattern approval standards are adopted from international standards published by the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML).
